Awardees picked from nearly 900 applicants; 60% work in a designated Health Professional Shortage Area and 45% provide care in a language other than English (29 languages). Caps: up to $300K for psychiatrists, $100K for primary care physicians and dentists, $50K for nurse practitioners. The companion Career Pathways Training program ($646M federal, launched 2024) reports 14,000+ enrollees.

Hochul opens FutureWorks Commission listening sessions on AI job losses, starting with women in clerical and back-office roles

Hochul launched the listening-session phase of the 20-member FutureWorks Commission on Aug 19, holding the first roundtable in New York City with women in administrative, clerical and customer-service roles. The governor's office says women are 84 percent of the state's administrative back-office workforce. The sessions are meant to feed policy and private-sector recommendations on AI's workforce impact.

Hochul presses DHS Secretary Mullin to reverse TPS terminations, warns state workers lose jobs "as soon as next week"

In an Aug 17 letter following a conversation with President Trump, Hochul urged DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin to fully restore Temporary Protected Status, citing the completed termination for Haitians and a forthcoming termination for Salvadorans. She wrote that state and local governments will have to sever employment for hundreds of essential workers as soon as next week, and flagged a heavy impact on the healthcare workforce.
