Hochul announces $48.3M in HEALR student-loan repayment awards to 352 health providers (99 psychiatrists, 76 primary care physicians, 43 dentists, 134 nurse practitioners) who commit four years to serving Medicaid members or uninsured New Yorkers
Announced Sept. 24. Funded through the state's federal 1115 Medicaid waiver. Awardees picked from nearly 900 applicants; 60% work in a designated Health Professional Shortage Area and 45% provide care in a language other than English (29 languages). Caps: up to $300K for psychiatrists, $100K for primary care physicians and dentists, $50K for nurse practitioners. The companion Career Pathways Training program ($646M federal, launched 2024) reports 14,000+ enrollees.
