The state's Sept. 1 release itemizes what it says is still owed ($63.3M UASI + $17.7M SHSP = ~$87M of the $187M cut Trump said in Oct. 2025 he would restore) but does not address unspent prior-year balances. Both claims can be true at once: New York may hold undrawn prior-year balances and still be short the $87M promised. We will flip this when FEMA or DHSES publishes the grant-year ledger.   Snopes rates the claim a "Mixture" (its scale, not ours; half_true is our closest equivalent). What is true: on Aug. 28, 2026, Hochul visited the Islamic Cultural Center of New York and covered her head with a black headscarf as a gesture of respect while speaking in the prayer hall — the video is authentic. What is off: photographs show some of her hair visible, so she was not wearing a traditional hijab, which covers the head and all the hair; framing the headscarf as "wearing a hijab" overstates it. Context: Hochul has worn head coverings at Muslim events before, including the July 2025 funeral of slain NYPD Officer Didarul Islam, and has publicly supported Muslim women's right to wear hijab.

  No reporting documents a death caused directly by ICE agents in Nassau County, which is the claim's literal scope. But an ICE detainee was found dead in his Nassau County jail cell in September 2025, sparking a New York State investigation (NY Post, Sep 19, 2025) — Nassau has housed ICE detainees at its East Meadow jail under the county's cooperation agreements, and the Hochul campaign cited that death in direct rebuttal. Whether a death in county custody under an ICE housing arrangement counts as "at the hands of ICE" is a framing dispute; the claim omits the documented custody death. The cause of the detainee's death has not been established in available reporting.

No evidence of state funding has been produced.

  “"Governor's Expansion of the Medicare Savings Program Has Helped More Seniors Save More Than $7,000 Per Year On Healthcare Costs" — Governor's Office release, Aug 19, 2026”

  The release's own body text does not support its subhead. It says the Medicare Savings Program "saves eligible New Yorkers $203 per month" — about $2,436 a year, roughly a third of the $7,000 claimed above it — and that expansion raised enrollment 20 percent to more than one million New Yorkers, totaling $2.4 billion in Part B premiums annually statewide. The $7,000 figure appears nowhere in the body and carries no methodology. It may bundle Part D Extra Help, deductibles or other benefits some MSP enrollees qualify for, but the release does not say so. Marked unverified pending a methodology from the Governor's Office rather than rated, because the claim may be defensible under an unstated definition.

  “"Our electric bills are 70% higher than the national average." — Bruce Blakeman, Livingston County GOP rally, Avon, reported Aug 19, 2026”

  Two problems: the number and the metric. On price, the most recent Empire Center analysis of EIA data puts New York's average residential electricity price at 29.93 cents per kWh in May 2026 — third-highest in the nation and 62.3 percent above the U.S. average, not 70 percent. On bills, the gap is much smaller than either figure: New York households consume well below the national average, so a high per-kWh rate does not translate into a bill 60-70 percent above average. Blakeman is directionally right that New York electricity costs far exceed the national average, and the price gap is large and growing (prices were 12.1 percent higher than a year earlier). But the 70 percent figure overstates the current price gap, and applying it to "bills" rather than rates overstates it substantially more. (Merged from a duplicate row logged the same day: Blakeman has paired the 70% figure with a claim of "48 rate increases" under Hochul — that count is not sourced to any public tally, and his framing of "one every month she's been governor" does not fit the arithmetic; Hochul took office in August 2021, about 60 months before the remarks. The 70% figure was accurate earlier in the cycle — an Empire Center release dated May 14, 2026 carried exactly that headline.)

  The state number is far smaller than $8 billion. The Comptroller's Asylum Seeker Spending Report, updated through June 30, 2026, says the SFY 2027 Enacted Budget Financial Plan plans $3.9 billion in state emergency asylum-seeker spending across five fiscal years (SFY 2023-SFY 2027), and that actual state spending totaled $2.68 billion through June 30, 2026. The FY 2027 Enacted Budget added no new appropriations. A figure near $8 billion appears only if you use New York City's cumulative expenditures ($1.47B FY23 + $3.75B FY24 + $3.02B FY25 + $1.27B FY26 = $9.51B) - city dollars, not state dollars, and spent over four fiscal years. The spending also covers people seeking asylum, a lawful process, not a category equivalent to "in the country illegally." The $81,000-per-person figure has no published basis in the Comptroller's data, which reports spending by agency and activity, not per capita.

  “Blakeman campaign framing: Nassau County is "the safest county in the country" under his leadership”

  The ranking is real but narrow and dated, and the underlying trend cuts both ways. Nassau was named the safest county in the United States in a 2024 U.S. News & World Report analysis — a single publication's methodology, not a federal crime statistic. Eight of the 25 counties on that list were in New York State, the state Blakeman's campaign describes as unsafe. Nassau's own numbers do not move in a straight line under Blakeman: violent crime rose by roughly 350 incidents in 2022, his first year as county executive, continued climbing through 2023 and 2024, and fell in 2025. Index crime peaked in 2023. Statewide, New York's crime rise and subsequent decline tracked national trends closely, which limits how much either candidate can claim credit.

Blakeman may be citing internal campaign polls, which have not been released and cannot be verified. The verifiable public record contradicts "virtually tied."

Hochul's office disputes the framing, saying Kalshi violated state law and deprived the state of revenue dedicated to education. Two caveats keep this from fully checking out: (1) when the claim was made Jul 13, the report as filed two days later fell at least $3M short, and the total was only substantiated after two amendments the campaign attributed to BOE "tech issues" the BOE says it is not aware of; (2) "raised" includes ~$3M transferred from Nassau/Suffolk party committees and ~$1.75M+ in public matching funds — direct donations since launch are roughly $5.7M. The topline number is now supported by state records; the framing still overstates money raised from donors. On Jul 12, a South Shore Press opinion column by GOP consultant Stefan Mychajliw attributed the 47-41 numbers to the Republican-aligned firm co/efficient (image credited "co/efficient"). UPDATE Aug 4: a Messenger article republished by Long Island Life & Politics adds further attribution — field dates June 30-July 2 and sponsor "Coalition to Protect Nassau Taxpayers" (a group whose website still references former county executive Laura Curran), plus internals (Hochul favorability 32/50, re-elect 33/55; Blakeman 26 fav / 21 unfav / 32 never heard of him). Still missing: sample size, margin of error, mode, and any official co/efficient release — no independent verification. The numbers remain below the standard for inclusion as a poll.
