Lawmakers press Hochul to sign the Good Food NY bill, passed by both houses

Published Aug 21, 7:38 a.m. ET. City and state lawmakers, including Senate sponsor Michelle Hinchey, Assembly Majority Leader Crystal Peoples-Stokes and Buffalo Council Member Mitchell Nowakowski, called on Hochul to sign the Good Food NY bill, which passed both houses this session. It would raise the amount public institutions — school cafeterias, hospitals, senior centers — can spend buying from qualified in-state food vendors. Sponsors cite roughly 160,000 agriculture jobs statewide and a nearly 14 percent loss of New York farms over the past decade. The bill is awaiting the Governor's action; no signature or veto as of this run, so no legislation row was created.

Hochul flags Aug 11 deadline for $30M farm tariff-relief fund as Canada trade fight squeezes NY producers

Aug 8 release: Hochul reminded eligible New York farmers and producers that applications for the $30 million Agricultural Resiliency Against Tariffs Program — which offsets 2025 tariff-related losses — close Aug 11. The state relief fund is the administration's direct response to the Canada tariff hit on NY's largest trading partner, a cost storyline both campaigns have used in the affordability fight.
