State secures USDA disaster designation for 32 counties after April frost caused $30M+ in fruit-crop losses

Announced July 25: USDA granted a Secretarial Disaster Designation covering counties in 10 regions after an early bloom followed by April 2026 frost hit apple, stone fruit, grape and strawberry growers, with reported losses topping $30 million. Affected farmers can now apply for USDA low-interest emergency loans. Hochul requested the declaration May 19.
