Hochul defends data-center moratorium: grid power is "a scarce public resource," community-investment rules coming in 60 days

In a Capital Tonight interview, Hochul framed EO 62's one-year hyperscale data-center pause as managing scarce grid capacity: NYISO reports roughly 14,000 MW of large-load requests waiting to connect, and she argued data centers create far fewer permanent jobs than facilities like Micron. She said Empire State Development will produce a "community investment framework" within 60 days requiring data centers to invest in host communities, and pointed to nuclear buildout as part of the capacity answer. Blakeman has said he would rescind the moratorium if elected.
