Hochul and Mamdani roll out $882M "Next Stop" bus plan; free buses not included

Hochul and Mayor Mamdani jointly announced the ~$882M "Next Stop: Fast Buses, Better Service" plan July 8: 20% faster buses on 50 priority corridors (up to 6 minutes saved per trip), bus-mounted lane-enforcement cameras on 25 more routes plus 200 roadside cameras, and an MTA commitment to all-door boarding. The plan omits Mamdani's campaign pledge of fare-free buses; both sides remain publicly at odds on fares (City & State, Jul 14).
