She also noted a Supreme Court ruling that the President lacks authority to impose tariffs without congressional approval. FEMA denies New York's appeal for a February-blizzard disaster declaration; Hochul: "Another day, another denial," and calls out GOP House members

In a 3:23pm Sept. 2 statement, Hochul said her administration was informed that FEMA has officially denied New York's appeal of the Major Disaster Declaration request for the February blizzard that hit New York City, Long Island and the Mid-Hudson. The state and local governments put damages at more than $168 million, which the governor says cleared every FEMA threshold. Timeline on the record: Trump denied the original request July 2 (statement-169); Hochul filed a formal appeal July 31; the appeal denial arrived one day after her Sept. 1 press conference with Mayor Mamdani over $87M in withheld counterterrorism grants. She tied the two together ("another denial") and turned on New York's Republican members of Congress, calling their silence "a direct betrayal" and demanding they press the President to grant the declaration. Her statement did not include FEMA's stated reason for denying the appeal, and no further appeal route or replacement state aid package was identified (FingerLakes1 noted the same gap). No response from Blakeman or the GOP delegation was published as of the morning of Sept. 3.
