DEC and EPA's Aug 24 progress report on the Niagara-Erie radiological assessment: signed access agreements grew from a handful to nearly 1,030 in a month; 726 properties screened since Jul 23; more than 475 owners notified that no further investigation is needed; 30 properties referred to EPA for additional investigation; 4 recommended for voluntary relocation. A new NECRA helpline (844-612-8144) launched Aug 24. The agencies say the vast majority of screened properties will need no further action.

Blakeman takes radiation fight to Town of Niagara, accuses Hochul of "hands-off" response to contaminated properties

Campaigning Saturday with the grassroots group Save Our Backyards Niagara, Blakeman accused Hochul of failing to "take charge" of the radioactive-contamination issue affecting homeowners on Chester and Fox avenues in the Town of Niagara. Second WNY environmental attack stop in a week after the Catskills solar event; Hochul's office had previously demanded the EPA speed its Niagara-Erie radiological review (July), saying no acute risks were found.

Hochul demands EPA speed up Niagara-Erie radiological review: "no acute risks" but 100+ properties flagged

Hochul sent a letter to EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin demanding the federal government expedite analysis of radiological-contamination data in Niagara and Erie counties, where aerial surveys flagged at least 100 properties tied to Manhattan Project-era waste. She says there are no acute public risks now but that families should not wait "months or years" for answers.
