Matinecock Court opens in Huntington after a 48-year fight; state now says 87,000+ of the promised 100,000 affordable homes are done

The $98M, 145-unit limited-equity co-op in Huntington was first proposed in 1978 and became a landmark Fair Housing Act case (Huntington Branch NAACP v. Town of Huntington, affirmed by the Supreme Court in 1988). Financing: ~$36M in federal and state LIHTC equity, $28M state subsidy, $1.7M OPWDD, $1M ESD, ~$4.2M Suffolk County. Eight units are for people with developmental disabilities and four for veterans; all are at or below 80% AMI. The release also updates the five-year Housing Plan tally to "more than 87,000" of 100,000 affordable homes created or preserved, up from the 81,000+ figure in our tracker. That is the state's own count and has not been independently audited.
