Trump signs an executive order renaming Lake Ontario "Lake America"; Hochul: "New York won't be calling it that"
Amid the escalating trade war with Canada — days after 50% tariffs on $20B of Canadian goods that Hochul has made a campaign centerpiece — President Trump signed an executive order Aug 27 purporting to rename Lake Ontario "Lake America" effective immediately. Hochul responded on X that "New York won't be calling it that"; Canadian PM Carney said Canada will keep calling it Lake Ontario.
