Backfill: Orange County Sheriff Paul Arteta joins the 15-sheriff suit against the Local Cops, Local Crimes Act, saying losing the ICE jail-housing contract leaves a $10M hole in the county budget; a Democratic county legislator says she learned of his move from the press

Published Sept. 16. Orange County has housed ICE detainees at its jail since 2008; DHS has 60 business days from Aug. 24 to move non-criminal detainees out. The $10M figure is the sheriff's own claim, not an audited number. FAIR's lead attorney says briefing on the injunction request is complete and the Northern District has not ruled.
