Nor'easter bears down on Long Island: Hochul puts state agencies on enhanced monitoring while Blakeman and Suffolk's Romaine each declare county states of emergency

A nor'easter forecast to bring 40-55 mph gusts, 15-22 ft waves on eastern Long Island, and moderate-to-major coastal flooding through Sunday. Gov. Hochul (Sept. 25) directed state agencies (DHSES, DOT, Thruway, DPS, State Police, DEC, State Parks, MTA, Port Authority) to prepare and activated enhanced monitoring at the State EOC, stopping short of a statewide emergency declaration. Separately, Nassau County Executive and GOP gubernatorial nominee Bruce Blakeman and Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine each signed county-level executive orders declaring states of emergency and activated their county Emergency Operations Centers. No statewide emergency declaration from Hochul as of this writing.
