Backfill: Hochul details $50M U.S. Route 9 overhaul in Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown: four roundabouts, separated bike-ped path; half the money is a federal BUILD grant and construction does not start until 2028

Sept. 4: NYSDOT's preliminary design for a 1.3-mile stretch of Route 9 (Broadway) replaces four signalized intersections in Sleepy Hollow with roundabouts, adds signals at two unsignalized intersections, a 0.75-mile physically separated shared-use path, continuous sidewalks, curb extensions and ADA bus stops. Of the $50M, $25M is a USDOT BUILD grant announced by Schumer and Gillibrand; Stewart-Cousins says she added $5M in the 2023 state budget. The release is a design milestone, not a groundbreaking: final design proceeds now and construction is "anticipated to begin in 2028," i.e., after the election and into a second term.
